Life Took Me

I am watching the complete Northern Exposure series. It's hard to believe the show went off in 1995. I can still...ney, I can NOW relate more to the premise of the show than ever (with the exception of the stain put on the state by Sarah Palin). I fancy myself as a Holling-esque character. His character has fought Jesse the Bear, mourned the life he didn't have, celebrated his life with a much younger spouse, and found the passion he thought he left behind by going out there and finding it again. I admire Holling and I don't know what it is that makes me relate to a 60+ man who lives in nowhere Alaska and runs a bar. Maybe it's his waxing philosophical about moonshine and taking "shots" at birds through a camera. Or maybe it's that he bought a star once...and so did I. "I didn't take life Chris. Life took me." season 3, Holling Vincouer bemoans his approach to life at age 63.

Glinda the Good Witch turns 49

So I'm rounding the corner to 49 and wondering what next? It's cliche' to say I don't "feel 49" and yet it is the truth. I still have the random thoughts I had in the 70's.....I still want to run away and be happy go lucky me! I want Glinda the Good Witch to fly down in her mysterious ball and tell me there's no place like home while I float awaywith the Wizard of Oz! The best I can do is put pen to paper or type to blog and imagine the world as I don't know it. I wonder what the Scarecrow, Dorothy and the Tin man thought when they were my age. Do we all have common experiences no matter what we do, who we are, where we came from and where we are going???

Time Draws Near

The countdown seemed to going quickly in late May, early June. Now that it is closer than it has ever been, time has slowed to a snail's pace. I am ready to retire, but tonight I was awake wondering what that will really mean. Especially since I spent the weekend with my aged and ailing parents. 30 years from now that will be me. Will I be healthy? Not unless I take a drastic step now. Why have I not taken that step? I simply don't have the energy. Everytime I get started a new block comes between me and my health. Will I be able to do something about it in a month? I hope so, but the latest thing that got in the way was helping care for my parents. It took every ounce of energy I had and it was over 100 degrees and that made me hang up hopes for any outdoor exercise since I wasn't in the right place for indoor exercise. Sigh. Aging isn't fun and now I am worried that retirement won't be either.
